High Hopes Kill

High Hopes Kill Hello! We are a group of 5 students, En Xuan, Hai Hui, Shannon, Jodie, and En Ning, from Cedar Girls' Secondary School!

Our video aims to show the detrimental effects on students who set overly high expectations for themselves. This issue is very common in Singapore, where education is highly competitive and students, more often than not, have absurdly high expectations of themselves. And when they do not meet these high expectations, they tend to beat themselves up over it. These expectations are symbolised by the height of the balloon behind the protagonist of our video.

Of course, these expectations could have other factors like pressure from parents and peers. However, we strongly believe that the biggest factor is themselves. The video depicts the different outcomes of the protagonist's life, according to the different expectations she has set for herself. Evidently, having (and not meeting) overly high expectations results in the lowering of one’s confidence, self-esteem, and perceived self-worth, as shown in the first half of our video. We’re sure many students have gone through this before as well.

We hope that through this video, students will reconsider the academic expectations they have for themselves and set more reasonable expectations. Don’t bend yourself to your expectations, but make them suit you.

Please like this video if you enjoyed it! It means a lot to us :D
