What is Worldbuilding? | THE 3 KINDS OF WORLDBUILDING What is worldbuilding, you ask? N.B.! There are many kinds of worldbuilding which fall partially between the cracks of these three types - and that makes sense! Interesting fiction is all about being inventive and blurring the lines! For example, a lot of second-world worldbuilding uses real-world elements - e.g. the plants and animals in the Game of Thrones series are almost all earthlike! And some alternate earth stories are so close to "real world" that the line is blurred, like Naomi Alderman's novel, "The Power".
