Emerging research indicates 99 percent of ocean plastic ends up on the sea floor

Emerging research indicates the bulk of the plastic pollution entering the world’s oceans sink to the bottom of the sea floor.

Millions of tonnes of plastic are estimated to end up in oceans around the globe each year and a reported 99 percent makes its way to the deep sea.

According to University of Manchester Researcher Dr Ian Kane, a high proportion of the plastic found on the sea floor were microfibres which originally came from textiles.
