Mayo Clinic Minute: How to Get Rid of Super Lice For many people, hearing the word "lice" is enough to make them start itching. Unfortunately, infestations of head lice are common. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates 6 to 12 million infestations happen in children ages 3 to 11 in the U.S. each year. And, according to Mayo Clinic experts, certain strains of lice are becoming resistant to some treatments, making them hard to eradicate.
