In this video of my series on retaining structures in geotechnical engineering, I explain what are the different models of soil behavior that are generally used. These models include the elastic model (with the Poisson coefficient parameter, the Young modulus), the Winkler model (analogy with springs), the rigid plastic model and the elasto-plastic model. All of these models have advantages and disadvantages depending on the cases of retaining structure to be analyzed as well as the constraints of the sites.
