A metabolic panel blood test assesses: electrolytes, renal function, and liver function. Note: The BMP and CMP both assess the electrolytes and renal function, BUT the CMP also checks the liver function.
Results assessed with a Basic Metabolic Panel (BMP) include:
Glucose, Calcium, Sodium, Chloride, Potassium, CO2, BUN, and Creatinine
Results assessed with the Comprehensive Metabolic Panel (CMP) include: Glucose, Calcium, Sodium, Chloride, Potassium, CO2, BUN, Creatinine PLUS ALP, AST, ALT, Bilirubin, Total Protein, Globin, Albumin
Sometimes the metabolic panel will assess the anion gap and eGFR (estimated Glomerular Filtration Rate).
